The other day the great Walter Cronkite died who I had the privilege of watching on the 6 o'clock news when I was a kid. Everyone knew that you could trust Walter. Then after he retired in 1980 journalism started going downhill slowly. The deterioration accelerated in the 1990s. The situation is so bad today that I can no longer watch MSM ("main stream media"). Now Jon Stewart is the most trusted newsman in the country, and here's an example of why that is.
If we should ever lose Jon, we will be in deep trouble as a nation.

But who says can we trust Jon Stewart? Where's his birth certificate?!?!? Is he really an American citizen?

Don't these idiot realize just how stupid they look?

On the plus side, the longer this nonsense continues, the more the Americans get to see just how crazy these people truly are.

Jon Stewart recently categorized all anti-globalist protestors as "Anarchists" and snidely made fun of the more feeble attempts at anti-globalization protests. Hmmmm. I was recently attacking Bill Clinton's appearances on this show for Jon not going after Clinton's economic record. Could it be this was an indirect attack on the postings of yours truly? All anti-globalist protestors are anarchists, Jon? Says who? Tom Friedman? This reminds me personally of chamber of commerce meetings attacking all liberals as 'communists' and Richard Nixon's red-baiting merry way to the top. These are insults, not arguments, Jon. I expected more of you. Since you're getting personal about anti-globalist protestors, I'll speculate about the globalist sympathies of the Democrats of Jon's generation(and Jon's ideas are sure pretty 'nineties' to me...dated). Globalization appeals to liberal Democrats and pseudo-social democrats because it reminds them of rich rock stars getting together to sing "We Are the World." It reminds them of multiculturalism and ethnic tolerance - good things, surely, but they have certain inherent problems(do you tolerate extremist, sexist, racist, and intolerant sentiments on the part of those communities?, and so forth). Perhaps it reminds you of world music and the first time you put on a King Sunny Ade CD. You knew it was a little thing, but somehow in listening to it you somehow felt more in touch with the multiplicity of the world(I love the music of King Sunny Ade myself, incidentally). Maybe it reminds you of the first time you watched a Hong Kong film or a Bollywood movie. All this obscures you to the fact that globalization is the same old corporate smash-and-grab, seek-and-exploit. A mere growing stage of capitalism, comparable to the Industrial Revolution? Prove it. Tony Blair was recently speaking in Surrey, B.C., Canada and he sounded all of the above notes in trying to plug globalization - multiculturalism, tolerance, etc. He also darkly intimated that 'dark forces' were rising up against globalization and should be guarded against. What forces are we talking about, Mr. Blair? International Zionist bankers perhaps? Lizard people? Communists? Or perhaps Blair is concerned about the people Jon Stewart was making fun of for banging drums and hassling small pet stores. Mighty fearsome, that. Are those people a serious challenge to the IMF or the World Bank, Mr. Blair? Come on. You can't have it both ways. Either anti-globalist forces are petty and laughable(as Jon suggested) or they are, as National Lampoon once put it, a Threat and a Menace. Blair and Jon Stewart don't seem to be on the same page here. I tell you, Jon. Naomi Klein once quoted a black South African who lived through the apartheid era and is now living through the severities of the IMF and the World Bank - he said,"Did we fight all these years for this?" That ought to break your heart. Ignoring the symptoms of a serious disease will not make that disease go away. And ignoring the problems of transnational companies on the rampage(the real anarchism, Jon) is not going to make those problems go away. Lay down and surrender to the Void, Jon? You can't fight City Hall? Or maybe most popular entertainers feel like those South Park guys - corporations have done pretty sweet by us, so anyone who protests about them has to be a silly 'hippie.' I guess I shouldn't expect too much from entertainers. Think what you want. Or don't think at all. Oh, and Jon, you seem to look visibly ticked off when I post things. Lighten up, dude. As a character in Pogo once said, "don't take life so seriously - it ain't permanent nohow." Good advice. Cheers...Greg Cameron, Surrey, B.C., Canada
