Do you want to know the fastest way to blow your credibility right out the door with serious business people? Bring up the fact that you are looking for a "startup grant" for your new business. That's all you have to do. You might as well tell them that your financing strategy is based on first finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
Never mention "startup grants".

After selling my business I took a gig with SCORE for 6 months back in 2004 to keep from going out of my mind with boredom. We had people calling in to ask about small business start up grants daily. When we told there was no such animal, they would get angry. People think about it!
